For some reason, last week I decided I want to make some pasta from scratch. I have never done this before so I thought I would try something easy. Apparently, something easy is ravioli? In hindsight, probably not the easiest pasta I could of chose but c’est la vie. I wasn’t planning on blogging this so I didn’t take a ton of pictures but I did snap a few to send to Italian twin for approval. haha.
What does one do when one needs a recipe for? Google is of course the answer to almost everything. I searched around a bit for something simple. The original recipe I used for the dish is from Julia’s Album and you can find it here. Her site is amazing! The recipe is super easy to follow and her pictures are stunning. That being said I just going to let you head on over there if you are actually interested in the recipe because I am not going to mess with perfection on this one.
I do still want to share with you the couple of snaps I did take though. This was a big day for me. I love to cook from scratch and create things and I have wanted to do pasta for a while. I had been putting it off until I get the pasta attachment for my Kitchen Aid stand mixer. Seriously, is there anything that thing can’t do? I decided to woman up and do it anyway.
What I learned from this : Making pasta is not for the faint of heart and causes day drinking and although rather simple to make it is time consuming and bicep building. I got a serious work out rolling out those pasta sheets. I started the whole process from dough to filling to sauce at lunch time and finished just in time for dinner 6 hours later. Half way through I rewarded myself with some wine. I am told that I should have started with the wine first to make it even more Italian enjoyable.
I am eager to get the pasta attachment, some moulds and try it again.
Have you ever made pasta from scratch? Any secrets you want to share?
