living in the moment

I have been going crazy needing another trip to Disneyland. It has been way to long. So I thought I would recap one of my favourite Disney trips for you today. Let’s flashback to March 2012 since it is Friday and all and just dive right in.

When Scott and I were first making the move to Penticton it was a bit of a difficult time for us.  It is a four hour drive in ideal conditions from where we were to where we were moving.  He got a job there and was moving up before me. We had never really been separated for more than a night or two before. We knew it would probably be a few months at least before I could make the move. insert panic attack here. He was set to leave the following Tuesday so I had taken a few days off to spend together before he left.

We decided to go to a late dinner at Milestone’s, one of our favourite places.  They have the most delicious salad!  We started talking about what we should do over the next couple of days.  How did we want to spend our last bit of time together?  No pressure, though. We are always talking and joking about our next trip to Disneyland.  So he pipes up.Let’s go to DisneylandI respond with something like Ya, sure let’s go!  Of course, I didn’t believe he was serious! We talked about how cool it would be to do something that spontaneous  We have a “discussion” on whether we would or not.  Each saying I would do it but I know you never would to actually do it.
The wine glasses and salad are from Milestone’s.  That would be Scott patiently waiting in the shadow while we decide our fate.

I decided to look up the flights on my iPhone to even see if it was possible to get a flight that night.  We didn’t have enough time to make the last flight out of Vancouver but there was a 6AM flight out of Seattle that we could take.  Sea-Tac airport being three hours away, we would still have to leave pretty quickly.  We joke some more…talk to our waiter about it, then a friend of ours that works there.  Everyone thinks we are crazy.  Maybe, but why not?

So, live in the moment or wish we had the courage for years to come?  We blasted out of there. I booked the flight on my iPad on the way home in the car.  We got back to our house and in a whirlwind packed a few things while my sister booked us in at the Disneyland Hotel.  (We owned a house with my sister and her husband at the time.) Got in the car and headed straight for the border! We arrived at the airport about 2am.  We were so wired we couldn’t sleep while we waited.  We arrived finally at our hotel about 11am, checked in, amazed the girl at the desk with our story.  Apparently, it isn’t common to only book one night, so she was curious. Then headed straight to the park! It was the best day and a half I we have ever spent.

Scott got a kick out the sign that says Surrey Ride 10 cents.  The city we were currently living in was Surrey.  And there is some sort of stereotype about Surrey girls.

I got a new pair of shoes cause I didn’t have time to pack properly and forgot comfy ones.  Not that I ever NEED an excuse to buy new shoes.  I was surprised by these Mickey Mouse ones though, they are Crocs.  Never thought I would own a pair on purpose.

We decided to have dinner at Steakhouse 55, something we hadn’t done before.  It was amazing! Just can’t describe it.
Although, we had been there before, been on other trips and will continue to travel I would love to relive that moment when we decided to live in the moment and just got for it.  It was the first time we had truly been crazy, lets just pack up and leave spontaneous together. Life gets in the way and we don’t always have the opportunity to do stuff like that. I am hoping that we will be able to create many more memories like this in the years to come.

Do you have a moment? Are you spontaneous?
