mr & mrs mac do grenada

Is it still winter? Oh.  That is what I thought.  Sometimes, I like to close my eyes and imagine what it would be like when summer does come.  I find a visual helps with this too.  Since it is Wednesday, let us Wanderlust some warmth into this place.
The next stop on our Carnival Splendor itinerary was Grenada.  Sailing up to the island was beautiful.  It was definitely one of my favourites to look at from a distance.  The port itself was definitely the most touristy port we have come up so far.  There was actually a building that resembled a mall here with the bonus of a slightly scary looking customs shop.  Whether this is good or bad is still being debated but I did score a shirt and some postcards.  Technically, I bought a pretty dress too.  There was nowhere to try it on and the large looked plenty big enough.  Haha.  Fooled ya.  That large was a snug fit on my sister in law who is usually a small or extra small.  Wtf? Oh, well.  Hope you enjoy it Trish.

This kid is growing up too fast.  Where is the pause button? I know some of you are looking for it.  If you find it, let a girl know.  I need it for both this guy and his little brother.

One thing I have always loved about the Caribbean is the warm and welcoming atmosphere.  I love the music and being greeted with it.  It is just so fun.  I think it really is a nice touch.

We are a big fan of the walking tour this trip.  Scott and I split off from the group for this port.  Sometimes that happens and it is all right by us.  This tunnel was crazy.  One way road barely big enough for one car to go through never mind the foot traffic that as well.  It wasn’t too bad one the smaller cars where going through but they weren’t all so compact.  I thought I was going to come out looking like a pancake if I came out at all when a truck started to make its way through.

As with all Caribbean Islands, Grenada is rich with history.  I love seeing all the old buildings.  I did notice Grenada seems to have a little more of old meets new too.  Which is amusing to see.  Courts is what I would call their versions of The Brick a furniture and appliance store for anyone that isn’t familiar with it.

Fresh fish and the like anyone? The walk along this sea wall was stunning.

I really wished we had the taking a ride on this train.  I love train rides and isn’t it just so cute.  Or on a Rhum Runner?  There seemed to be plenty of them to choose from.  Although, none seemed to be actually pouring rum at the moment so we passed by.

There was a very tragic fire/boat sinking in the harbour.  The statue is named Christ of the Deep and is the memorial for the Bianca C.

I don’t know why but I have always loved telephone booths.  Especially old ones like these.  Do you think these could get me into the Ministry?

On our way back through the tunnel.   Grenada was a very beautiful and friendly island.   Once you leave the immediate port area.  Otherwise, it felt a bit like Mexico with all the peddling.  I did manage to get a neat little handmade box full of local nuts and spices.  I may or may not have brought said things back with me.  Actually, some of the nuts in the box we didn’t chance but still.  Oh ya, plus all the really shady helpful guys that want you to go see this or that with them.  It is just down this back alley.  Ah, thanks but no thanks.

Of course, one of our favourite reasons for heading to the Caribbean is the rum.  Scott picked up this Westerhall Estate Dark Rum.  I imagine since it is already heading towards the empty side he is wishing he had bought more than one bottle.  Too bad he didn’t but that just means we will have to go back so he can get more.
