Once Upon A Halloween In Galveston

Today is finally the day! I have been talking about blogging our last cruise for almost a year now. Between my lack of enthusiasm for the cloudy Caribbean pictures the weather was terrible for most of the trip and my Blogger related troubles, I just couldn’t get around to it. Times are a changing around here. Thankfully.

It is about an hour drive to the airport we flew out of. We decided to rent a tour bus to drive us all up there since there were 8 of us and 484747 pieces of luggage because it was cheaper than driving there and parking two cars for the duration of the trip. It was great and I would totally do it again.

And we were off! It was nice to have such a short trip down this time. For our first couple of Caribbean cruises we sailed out of Puerto Rico and it was quite the adventure getting down there. This time we sailed out of Galveston, Texas and it was like half the travel time. Actually, less than that I believe. Which was quite fantastic!

The weather in Galveston was terrible. We cruised right at the end of hurricane season just as we usually do. We have been lucky in the past and our trips were blessed with great weather. Not this time we caught the tail end of one or the aftermath. Either way, it was gloomy and raining. Not ideal for a vacation.

Galveston seemed like a really cool place despite Mother Nature’s attempts to thwart us. We have talked about how we would love to cruise out of there again. Or even go back for a weeks vacation. It was really neat. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Galveston West-Seawall. Wow, that is a mouthful. A review to come? If anyone is interested.

The hotel was in a great location on the seawall. Just a short taxi down to Pleasure Pier. Which is where planned to spend the day for Halloween. We weren’t too impressed with spending the afternoon at the in the rain but decided to suck it up and make the most of it anyway. The kids and ladies got all dressed up and we all headed down.

Bubba Gump

We are all not so fond of ferris wheels of any kind but decided to try to be brave and conquer this one. Turns out it wasn’t meant to be. After about a minute of being on it they call us back down and shut down the ride because it wasn’t safe because it was too windy. Yikes.

The place was mostly deserted not shocking considering the weather. Who else besides a bunch of crazy Canadians with pre-purchased tickets would want to be dressed in full costume spending the day out in the rain. After we headed over to the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co for dinner then back to the hotel to warm up and get out of our wet costumes. There is something weird about me. As much as I loved my costume and being Alice for the day, I just don’t like the feeling of wet tulle.  Call me crazy.
