road trip rest stop

On Wednesdays we wanderlust.  On this particular one I have some actually wandering to recall so recall it i will.  This girl and the open road have a bit of a love/hate relationship.  Don’t get me wrong.  I love a good road trip but my bladder doesn’t.  She’s a temperamental biotch.  As soon as I get in the car she is looking to get out at next available rest stop before I even belt out the first song on my playlist.

Last weekend was a long weekend here in BC. So, we packed up the car and headed home.  It is about a four hour drive but we left earlier in day and decided to be lazy about it.  It was about the journey not the destination.  For once, we decided to enjoy a leisurely drive instead of try to make the best time ever like we usually do.  So we drove like somebody’s grandma and you guessed it rested at all the stops.  Ok, maybe not all of them but definitely more than needed and that is just ok.
This is by far one of my favourite road trip rest stops.  Although, Mariposa Orchards is much more than a rest stop.  It is also my favourite fruit stand in Keremeos.  Probably anywhere, unless you count those fruit carts in Disneyland.  No? Oh, just me then.

3 for a $1 anyone? Say what? Didn’t we pay $8 dollars for one of those zucchinis last Saturday at Safeway.

Summerland Sweets is favourite around these parts.  Probably all BC parts, I imagine.  The jams, jellies, syrups and honey are the best of the best.  The raspberry jam is my favourite.  I am not a huge jam eater but this stuff is so worth it.

I had not noticed this fresh garlic I was standing right beside especially because I have only ever bought garlic as it comes at the supermarket. So I felt a little silly standing there asking Scott why it smelled like garlic and having him point at the huge crate of it.

We bought a few peaches, 4 winter squash, 3 zucchini, a couple tomatoes and an $4 ice cream bar for 8 bucks.  Something is wrong with the math here.  Not that I am complaining.  That was a great price for the produce and the ice cream was totally worth half the bill.  Of course.
