Stumbling into Heaven’s Gate

As you may have noticed on Sundays we like to head out for a little wine touring. This particular Sunday was no different. Except we didn’t end up doing exactly what we had set out to do. Although, sometimes these unexpected surprises are the best.
We had originally wanted to check out one winery in particular. We googled and set the GPS to our intended destination. We knew roughly where it was since it was another Bottleneck Drive winery. Or so we thought. We were starting to get suspicious because there are tons of signs directing you to all the wineries along B Drive and none for this particular one. Then we got the you are here from the GPS. Ah, say what? No, we sure are not.
We decided to just pull into the nearest winery for a tour. We could inquire with them as to the mystery after a few sips. And that ladies and gentleman is how we stumbled into the gates of heaven. I mean, Heaven’s Gate Winery. I was immediately enamoured with this place. I love the cozy log cabin feel. The view from the patio is spectacular. Once the vines are in full season you won’t be able to beat this rustic scene. That fountain calls to me. I have thing for them you know? Well, now you do.

I took a few pictures before we went inside. Then when I went inside I was asked if I saw the frog? Oh my, no I didn’t. I love frogs so back out I went to meet this cute little fella. He is definitely having a good time.

Then back in I went. This little sign needs to me mine. Also, every time I read it I hear it in my head to the tune of her favourite color is chrome. Thanks for that Trace.

Then we got down to business. What would a wine tour be without wine? I do not ever want to find out. This is also when I found out it was fate to be here. Ginny from Buttergirl Diaries had been sharing her enjoyment of a beautiful glass of Malbec on social media. I had commented that I hadn’t heard of it before. She urged me to try it saying she loves it so much. I hadn’t run across it before. Then a what coincidence there it was the first sip of the day. Or was it? We were at Heaven’s Gate.

What a heavenly taste it was. This 2011 Malbec has intensity with hints of black cherry, plum and spicy sage. I love me some spicy wine. It tempts your palette with berry flavours finishing off leaving you with the soft and smooth spirit of vanilla. This definitely had to come home with us.

Unfortunately, I didn’t take anymore pictures of the wines. Too busy sip, sipping. We also tried a few others including a Gamay Noir that was very good as well. We also had to bring home a bottle of 2013 Gewürztraminer. Words to describe this…..spicy, floral, clean, crisp and citrusy.  The way to this girl’s heart in on the G train. I can’t really say I have met one that I haven’t liked. I will never leave a bottle of that stuff behind. If you come to my house for dinner or even just wine and we are having white there is a 98% chance that is what you are getting.

After I took a couple of pictures of the decor inside. Such a cozy, rustic feel. It feels very homey and welcoming. Like you just want to pull up a chair on the patio and one of those bottles and stay awhile.

This was such a great place to accidentally end up. I am glad we got a little lost. Turns out that the original winery we were looking for moved and good old google wasn’t updated. Shocker. We will definitely be adding this place to the list of wineries we love. Thanks so much to HG for making this such a great time!
