I can’t remember the last time if ever I took a staycation. I also can’t remember being off in the summer since high school. Somehow I got lucky enough to get a week off this month. Since we are taking two weeks off and heading to the Caribbean in December I decided to just stay home and relax this time. It was a bit weird to think of being off and not going away anywhere at first. I always go away if I am on vacation. Otherwise, I don’t really see the point. Scott wasn’t off either so that was another reason to stay put.
I got a lot of little things done around the house I had been meaning to get around to doing for a while. I also found it the perfect opportunity to get my blogging groove back on. I spent some time designing and get this little spot of mine back up and running. Yay, for being back for my second week now!
I found myself at the beach a lot. I mean, I live in a two beach town meaning there is a lake at both ends of town so it is only natural. I really haven’t taken advantage of it as I feel I should have in the past. Going forward I intend to change that because this girl was born to have her toes in the water.
Of course, there was wine! We headed up to Black Widow for a tasting and to pick up our Fall Reserve wine club selections. I can’t wait to be sipping those delicious reds all winter long over a roaring fire. Even if that fire is just a giant tease on my television screen. Technically we do have an electric fireplace in our bedroom but I don’t drink wine in bed. Maybe I should be? Am I missing out?
My cousin decided to come up for a visit and join in on the fun halfway through. We did the whole hometown tourist thing. Spent hours one day walking around downtown and at the beach etc. She finally got to try the famous Jeffer’s Fryzz truck. Best fries ever. Don’t even get me started on their poutine. All the heart eyes. We had stopped in at the Lakeside resort for something to drink on the patio. I am beginning to forgive them for closing down my favourite restaurant. They replaced it with a coffee and wine bar so I sort of have to forgive them, right. Anything else and it would have been friends off.
We decided on a full beach day with my sister and her husband for the Tuesday because that is when they were off. Naturally the smoke cover rolled back in for the day. We didn’t let it stop us but it did shorten the day a bit.
All in all it was a great staycation. If you ignore the fact that I woke up sicker than a dog why are dogs sick? The second to last night and ended up spending pretty much all of my last day in bed. Which I am completely ignoring. I would totally love to do another staycation in the future. Well, that is if I am not too busy cruising the Caribbean or at Disney. Let’s be honest staycations are nice but travelling is much nicer. Only 93 days to go! I can hardly believe that since we started the countdown for this cruise at 600 and something! Never going to book that early again.
beautiful post, staycation is so fun !!
Thanks, Sonia! It really was fun.
I think you rocked this staycation business! All fun things exploring around locally!
Thanks, I think so too! While I enjoyed it I think I’ll head back to the Caribbean for my next cruise. 😜
