Would You Like Some Cheese To Go With That Wine?

Cliché but yes, yes I would like some cheese with my wine. That is exactly what I want. On a recent wine tour we got just that.
A few weeks ago after we headed back from Heaven’s Gate Winery, we headed back to town to be closer to home. Then we headed to Upper Bench Winery and Creamery. This is a winery we have been wanting to hit since the beginning but for one reason or another kept overlooking it. Don’t get me wrong, we want to visit them all. This one we drive by a lot and I can hear it calling out to me. I think it is the cheese.

I love the all the artwork on the building. The patio wasn’t open yet but I am sure it is by now. Everything in this town is now in full swing since the May Long Weekend marks the beginning of summer for us. What that really means is…the tourists are back. I am looking forward to going back and enjoying some patio time here this summer.

That is quite the little photobombing cutie in the corner there. There were two of these dogs there being the perfect greeters. So well behaved those dogs.

We had to go over and say hello. Which these perky babes thought as an invitation to playball. We throw it around a bit then went on in for the real reason we were there.

So many wines so little time. I mean, we only have all summer. You know how fast those fly by. We tried a few. Of the whites the Riesling was our favourite. The aroma of this wine brings to mind crisp apple, gooseberry, petrol and mandarin. Your palette will be teased will the tastes of citrus, pink grapefruit and lemon. I love the bright acidity of this wine. We brought the 2013 varietal home.

I can’t lie so I am going to have say I don’t remember exactly what red this wine was. I think it was the Merlot. I can tell you it was delicious though. We throughly enjoyed all the wines we tried here. It was difficult to only pick a couple to bring home. So much so that we actually decided to pick up a bottle that we hadn’t even tasted. We decided to take a chance on a 2012 Zweigelt. They said it has notes of casiss, chocolate, sage brush, orange peel and blackberry. It should taste of black and red currant, pomegranate and turkish delight with a touch of orange peel. Sounds delicious to me. We haven’t opened it yet but I will be sure to let you know when we do.

I try to take some pictures of the cheese tasting but my camera or I seemed drunk and all the pictures turned out blurry. We did however sample them. Wine and cheese together is such a beautiful thing. Something that being the mouse that I am should have been more of staple in life before this day. Oh, where have I been. We tried the Gold which is their signature cheese. It is a delicious semi-soft cheese. We also tried the King Cole which is a blue cheese. I am picky about my blue cheese mostly meaning it is hit or miss if I will like it or not. This one wasn’t my favourite but Scott really enjoyed it.

Something about this chalkboard makes me smile. I just love it to pieces.

After we finished up inside, I couldn’t help myself but to go and play ball again. Such sweethearts these gals are.

It seems like whether it is wine or cheese they are aging it to perfection at Upper Bench. After this stop, we headed out to one more winery after this one so stay tuned….
